Open Source
Open source is the term that refers to software freely distributed and developed. It was used by the first time in 1998 by some users of the free software community, that were trying to find an alternative to the original one called Free Software.
Under this concept of open source designers and programmers have developed countless applications in common such as: blogs, web 2.0, CMS (Content Management System: Content Management System, etc.).
These applications are in constant development by a large community of users and programmers.
Using these programs for assembling a site has features that should be mention:
- It reduces programming costs
- It minimize development times due to the wide availability of tools and modules
- Most of these programs have a CMS (Conent Management System) that allows the maintenance of the contents of the user / client.
The decition between using these programs as a basis for developing your website or program it from scratch depends on the peculiarities and features your site requires.
